Wellbeing Fund

We provide young carers from financially disadvantaged homes with small grants of up to £250 to help overcome social isolation, access and achieve in education, support emotional wellbeing and mental heath, and obtain household essentials.

Applications can be made directly by families. Each application is individually assessed to ensure it meets with the Fund’s eligibility criteria and achieves a specified outcome for the child. Successful applications lead to an approved product or service being purchased by Honeypot and supplied to the child’s family directly.

Why do we provide wellbeing grants?

Jessica received a tablet and headphones, “She is absolutely delighted with them! A little bit of Honeypot will be with her every day that she uses it... so this means a lot to her.”

Through no fault of their own, many of the families we work with are financially disadvantaged, often as a result of illness or disability within their household. Inequality of opportunity to access relatively basic resources not only has practical implications, but can also impact the self-esteem and confidence of a young carer.

Through our Wellbeing Fund we help Honeypot children access a wide range of essential resources so that they are able to enjoy some of the things many others may take for granted, and alleviate in some way one of the many challenges young carers face every day.

What do we provide?

Wellbeing grants are awarded according to defined terms and conditions. Grants take the form of a product or service purchased by Honeypot and delivered directly to the family’s home. No cash awards are made.

Typical examples of funded items may include:

  • A tablet computer to enable a child to access educational resources and online support such as our Honeypot virtual workshops

  • School uniform, equipment or funding for school activities

  • Funding for personal tuition to improve educational outcomes

  • Funding for school transport costs

  • A musical instrument or set of music lessons

  • Equipment needed to pursue a hobby or interest

  • Household items relevant to the child’s role as a young carer, for example a new washing machine

  • Meal vouchers to support young carers needing nutritional support in the school holidays.

Who can apply?

The Fund is available to all registered Honeypot children who meet its eligibility criteria.

An application can be made by the child’s family directly.

Eligibility may be demonstrated by evidence of current entitlement to specified benefits.

If you would like to discuss a possible application with us before submission, please write to us at wellbeing@honeypot.org.uk with your name and phone number and a member of our team will contact you.

Meet Micaela

Micaela is 10 years old and has a disabled brother. She loves to perform at home, the wellbeing fund gave her the opportunity to attend Stagecoach classes that have enabled her confidence to grow and excel in school.

mEET MIA

Mia helps her parents care for her two older brothers who have duchennes, a life-limiting condition and ADHD. Mia sadly didn’t have much space for herself in the family home, due to her small bedroom the wellbeing fund helped Mia’s family with a cabin bed.

We are currently looking for sponsors of the Wellbeing Fund, which is part of our Wrap-Round service. If you are interested in donating towards this service to support some our most vulnerable families with life’s essential items, please get in touch at info@honeypot.org.uk.
