Mia

Mia first joined Honeypot on a respite break. She came home to her parents full of joy after feeling so comfortable with Honeypot staff. She most recently enjoyed a memory-making day to Saints Stadium and received the wellbeing fund for a new cabin bed.

Mia and her 2 brothers.

Mia and her brother.

Mia helps her parents care for her two older brothers who have duchennes, a life-limiting condition and ADHD. Whether it is emptying her brother’s bottles, cleaning or anything her parents or brothers need, she never complains. It’s normal for her to have to do these things. The boys take up the majority of my attention. It can be difficult for Mia as most things have to revolve around her two brothers.

Mia loves to dance, she does tap and ballet, and she plays X Box with her brothers. She’s very protective of her brothers and has a great relationship with them.

Mia has that escape with Honeypot, having siblings with health problems can be difficult, something she may not really fully understand yet. Honeypot is enabling her to have these amazing memories she will remember forever.

We could never go to the theme park with the boys. It’s something Mia has found she really enjoys, so it makes me so happy that Mia can do these things still thanks to Honeypot!

Honeypot is a place just for her. A lot of our attention goes on her two brothers, so Honeypot gives her the time and attention she doesn’t get at home. I never have to worry too, I know she’s going to have the best time and come back with lots of stories!

Mia has the smallest room in the house, so it was difficult to find any kind of furniture, those that we did find were extremely expensive! We are so grateful for the wellbeing fund, it enabled us to buy a cabin bed that still leaves her space. The bed has a built-in wardrobe, and space underneath for her computer and desk. It’s great as now she is getting older she has her own space to do her homework. It’s pink too, which she loves! It was great that we could choose what we wanted. Everything is pink!

It's a place that’s hers, away from the boys and just focused on her. The equipment and things needed for the boys take up a lot of space in the house so having this space that’s only hers is amazing. Her safe haven to focus, play with her friends or chill.

The first night she received the cabin bed she said she wanted to eat her Chilli in the wardrobe. My partner and I couldn’t stop laughing. She did in fact eat her dinner in her room that evening, of course telling Steve (Our Operations Manager) all about it on her next Honeypot break!

Mia has her own space away from the responsibilities of being a young carer, allowing her to focus on her studies and relax, thanks to your donations.
