Our services
Since 1996, we have been working to enhance the lives of young carers and give them an opportunity to create happy childhood memories. We work with an extensive referral network of professional children’s welfare organisations all over the UK, to ensure that children with the greatest needs receive appropriate and timely support.
Today we help young carers through a unique service offering, consisting of respite breaks and a holistic service model to meet the changing needs of young carers. Through a combination of different services, we are able to support young carers based on their individual needs and unique situation at home, and independent of their geographic location.
The needs we are addressing
Young carers experience high levels of stress and anxiety, severe social isolation, and many fall behind in school because of their caring responsibilities at home and a general lack of self-confidence. Many of the families we support are financially disadvantaged and young carers experience a higher level of bullying than in the general population of young children.
Our services are delivered by highly trained and dedicated staff. Each programme, whether it’s a respite break or virtual workshop, is tailored to the individual needs of a child, or the wider group we work with. In addition, we now also run a Wellbeing Fund, to provide small financial grants to families from financially disadvantaged backgrounds.
Respite breaks
Respite breaks form the core of our work. Given freedom from routine, children can take part in a wide range of activities, socialise with peers, and engage with responsive, encouraging adults.
Learning breaks
With our Social & Emotional Active Learning breaks (SEAL), we assist young carers to progress in education. Offered face-to-face, SEAL helps to build resilience and restore their confidence.
memory making days
Our Memory Making days alleviate social isolation, build on the friendships made on Respite Breaks and provide experiences for young carers they would not be able to have.
Wellbeing Fund
As an integral part of our Wrap-round service, we provide small grants to young carers from deprived backgrounds for essential items, such as a new washing machine or school materials.
