Our New Sensory Room For Young Carers!

We’re thrilled to announce that we are embarking on an exciting new project: the construction of a dedicated sensory room at our Hampshire house which, subject to planning permission, is scheduled for completion by summer 2025.

This space is designed to enhance the care and support we provide to young carers, creating a safe, relaxing, and engaging environment tailored specifically to meet their unique needs.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, our 2021 appeal successfully raised funds towards the refurbishment of our pool. However, given the significant costs associated with this project, it was ultimately deemed unfeasible for the charity to pursue.

Following several months of consultation with local schools and stakeholders, it was decided that the funds from the pool campaign would be reallocated toward a different initiative to benefit our children: the creation of a sensory room.

For the young carers we support, balancing school, friendships, and home responsibilities can often lead to feelings of stress, anxiety, and isolation. A sensory room is a purpose-built environment that uses carefully chosen sights, sounds, textures, and interactive elements to help children unwind, regulate emotions, and experience calmness and joy.

This addition will make a significant impact by allowing our young carers to have a private, comforting space where they can take a break from their routines, explore sensory stimuli, and practice self-soothing techniques that are beneficial long after they leave our care.

The sensory room will be filled with a range of engaging features, such as soft lighting, calming music, tactile wall panels, and sensory toys to create a tranquil and welcoming atmosphere. These elements will help stimulate the senses in ways that provide comfort and relaxation, enabling young carers to temporarily step away from the demands they face.

Research has shown that sensory rooms can reduce stress, improve mood, and enhance focus and engagement in children, and we are excited to provide this opportunity to our young carers who deserve moments of calm in their busy lives.

To make room for this new facility, we are repurposing the area that the old pool house was on with a modular building that will house the sensory room. This project represents a new chapter in the evolution of our facilities, allowing us to use our space more effectively to support emotional well-being.

We anticipate that this new addition will become a cherished feature, accessible throughout the year and suitable for children of all ages and needs.
