Honeypot celebrates Diwali
On Saturday, 14th November, Diwali, the festival of light, was celebrated around the world. We wanted to give our Honeypot children the chance to hold their very own virtual festivities at home this year, so themed our latest virtual workshop around lights and creativity.
Doused in bright colours and time spent with family, Diwali is a truly wonderful opportunity to get creative and add a bit of magic to the often monotone lockdown life. It was wonderful to see so many of our children and their families celebrating the occasion, letting off fireworks and looking positively into the future.
Our virtual workshop allowed young carers to participate in lots of Diwali-themed creative activities, while talking about the history of the festival and the children discussing what this means to them.
Team leaders Nikita and Kirsty urged all our participants to be as innovative as possible with their designs, and helped each of them to create a range of cultural masterpieces to decorate their home!
The children started making handprint elephants by drawing an outline of their hand and creatively decorating them. They then moved on to designing henna tattoos, drawing out intricate patterns onto a stencil of their hand. Finally, they constructed a self-made lantern with a candle, an essential component when celebrating the festival of lights!
While fewer carers attended this workshop, the children that did attend had an amazing opportunity to bond with each other, and every one shared stories and talked about how they’re feeling at the moment while enjoying being creative and making something they can keep and use to make the house homely and cosy.
