96 miles for Honeypot
Ami is a student nurse who joined the Honeypot Hampshire team in February for her work placement. She wanted to do something to challenge herself while raising money for Honeypot and found the 96 miles of the West Highland Way was the perfect challenge!
Ami did not do the journey on her own, her son Billy, aged 16 was also inspired by her courage and decided to join in the trek for Honeypot. They both love an adventure in the great outdoors and have done Snowdon, Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and the Horseshoe in the Brecon Beacons.
They left all luxuries behind wild camping on mountainous terrains with some beautiful sunsets! The trek began in Glasgow and ended in Fort William, totalling a great 96 miles, plus they pushed themselves even further by completing the challenge in 7 days.
DAY ONE
The beautiful views of the Highlands and the opportunity to wild camp along the route gave them real mother and son time.
DAY four
The pair endured high winds and rain on the trek, even cleverly pitching their tent behind an old abandoned building didn’t stop them from getting very cold and wet. This was the most difficult part for Billy, luckily Ami’s encouragement helped to keep them going. The toughest day for the duo was Loch Lomond, the whole terrain was rocky, a difficult task with carrying heavy gear! Despite feeling a ‘little worse for wear’ they were still very determined to finish!
day seven
Well done Ami and Billy on completing the journey and raising an amazing £454 for Honeypot.
