For over 26 years the Honeypot Children’s Charity has provided stress busting residential respite breaks for anxious and worried young carers. Honeypot is extremely excited about opening our newest House in New Cumnock, Ayrshire, for young carers aged 5 to 12 living in the Central Belt of Scotland.
There are 100,000 young carers in Scotland, with 80% living in the Central Belt. Local authorities, young care groups, and social work teams in Scotland tell us that the demand from young carers for Honeypot’s respite breaks is high. They are eager and waiting to refer needy young carers, at the earliest opportunity, for respite breaks at Dalleagles.
Honeypot aims to open Dalleagles in June 2023. To prepare for the children’s arrival we must build an extension, renovate & refurbish the whole of Dalleagles and equip it.
We present here a wish list, with naming rights, and a list of the items needed to equip Dalleagles.
Children referred to us begin their journey with Honeypot with a residential respite break. The breaks are usually attended by 12 children, and we aim to run at full capacity of 63 respite breaks at each house per year, supporting 1,512 children.
The Honeypot Children’s Charity supports young carers for the long term. Whenever we have set up in a new geographical area, we commit to providing our services well into the future.
Over the long term, therefore, Honeypot House Dalleagles is the basis for developing The Honeypot Children’s Charity Scotland. Honeypot Scotland, will enhance and enrich the lives of tens of thousands of Scottish young carers.
