The Million Steps Challenge

The Million steps challenge has now finished with 7500 miles covered in 100 days by Honeypot supporters. That’s more than London to Jakarta, Indonesia! The challenge began in January with teams and indiviudals taking on a 100 day challenge to reach one Million Steps/500 Miles! From dance festivals to coastal paths they have smashed their targets!

Honeypot’s wellbeing co-ordinator Cathleen Dowding took on the challenge with her mother in-law!

I completed my one million steps just a few days ahead of the 100 day deadline, which felt great!

I was lucky enough to find someone locally selling a treadmill at the beginning of the year, and it certainly helped me to get the steps in on those short winter days!

A million steps in 100 days initially seemed daunting, but broken down, it worked out 10,000 per day. This was hard on some days, especially on days when I’d been working at my desk all day. But I found it easier to accrue steps on the weekends.  My best daily step count was 46,534 steps - which I did whilst at a dance music festival. In fact, I notched up 123,579 over the course of the 3-day festival!

My mother-in-law also signed up to the challenge, so we had some healthy competition going initially! But unfortunately I injured my knee and had to slow it down, and there was no catching up with her after I’d recovered!

It was nice to help raise funds for such a great cause, whilst also building good habits into my own routine, as I’ve continued to try and maintain the 10,000 steps a day, even though the challenge has now ended.

Well done Cathleen you’ve smashed it!
