Honeypot's Halloween Workshop

Trick or treat, trick or treat, it was Honeypot’s virtual Halloween last week!

We know how important Halloween is for so many of our young carers, so it was an obvious choice to include a Halloween themed workshop in our series of virtual workshops, an integral component of our new Wrap-Round service offering. Organised by Nikita and Kirsty, two of our team leaders, the children produced an array of lovely, yet creepy handcrafted creations in front of their laptops while interacting with other young carers and taking a break from their usual daily routine. The turnout was great and we received amazing feedback from both parents and children.

Nikita told us: The Halloween workshop I ran was full of spooky activities, socialising and lots of laughter! It has been lovely to see Honeypot children getting involved and not letting the coronavirus hinder their plans. I split the morning into two activities: the first activity was “monster milk bottles” –a really simple but effective activity enjoyed by all. The children collected milk bottles of any shape and size in the week running up to the workshop, and were asked to think of any scary designs they would like to draw on them. We then had moved onto “Halloween” bunting. It was a real “arty” group so the outcomes were brilliant! We designed monsters, danced to Halloween music, and learnt how to make Origami whilst chatting away!

Kirsty said: We had an amazing Halloween party on Saturday. The children were all dressed up as skeletons, witches or little devils. It was so nice to see them laughing and interacting with each other, they loved the creative element of the workshop and most importantly, you could see how they were able take a little break from their usual routine and engage in something fun and child-focused.

We designed monster, danced to Halloween music, and learnt how to make Origami whilst chatting away! Throughout the session, I played Halloween themed music at random times, which all children had to respond to by dancing. The slowest to start dancing had to complete a forfeit! Trust, me, it was lots of fun for everyone involved and Nikita and I were both really pleased with the result.

Here are some quotes from some of the workshop attendees and their parents:

“I LOVE HALLOWEEN AND HAD A MINI PARTY WITH HONEYPOT.”

"I DIDN’T REALLY KNOW WHAT ORIGAMI WAS UNTIL NOW AND NOW I THINK IT’S AWESOME.”

“I had a such a sad girl waking up and she is beaming now, thank you so much!”
