Welcome to the team, Thupayal Hussain
Our two year partnership with Bank of America, Honeypot’s biggest corporate partnership to date, ended in December 2020. Thupayal Hussain, a Vice President at the Bank, has been of invaluable help to raise awareness of young carers both amongst his colleagues and the wider public every since the very beginning of the partnership (read Guardian article here). We are delighted to now have him on board as one of our ambassadors, sharing his personal experiences of life as a young carer, with our supporters and Honeypot children as inspiration.
“I’m not going to say your life is going to be easy – it is not. But don’t let your circumstances define you. Prioritise what matters most to you and keep pushing … And don’t be afraid to ask for help.”
“I was a carer for my mum since I was 15 and experienced first-hand the difficulties young carers face. Managing home life and school life together is a burden which requires you to make lots of sacrifices a young child shouldn’t make - but must. As a result, I had to grow up mentally much quicker than I needed or wanted to.
When Honeypot was in the running to be our UK charity partner at the Bank of America, I rallied my colleagues to vote as it was something close to home. I wanted to help raise awareness of my struggles and challenges so that people really understand what a young carer is and how that experience can impact the life they will live. Sadly, a lot of dreams and aspirations are blocked due to caring responsibilities and I wanted to show people and young carers that anything is possible if you’re determined and willing to fight. My dream was always to work in the city at one of the biggest investment banks in the world and I am fortunate enough to do this now.
I look forward to continue working with them as an ambassador, sharing my experience with others and supporting their work but most importantly allowing the children to see someone like me and realise the caring responsibilities will not define what and who they become.”
“I’m not going to say your life is going to be easy – it is not. But don’t let your circumstances define you. Prioritise what matters most to you and keep pushing … And don’t be afraid to ask for help.”
His active demonstration how important it is to believe in your self, and that your goals and ambitions are achievable, has been a great inspiration for many young carers, proving that anything is possible, no matter your circumstances.
We are extremely grateful for him to join our team as an ambassador, speaking on behalf of our young carers and educating people about the detrimental effects that this role can have on an individual throughout their life.
