Honeypot asks Arts & Crafts enthusiasts to get involved!

We're asking supporters to help us create paper mache masks for our Playbus! The children we support love decorating them as part of their activity session and we know the masks often become a treasured memento of their time at Honeypot.

So... here's how to get cracking!

You will need:

  • Balloons

  • Two bowls, one for your balloon to sit in and the other for your mixed wallpaper paste

  • Lots of newspaper cut / ripped into strips

  • White paper also cut/ripped into strips

  • Piece of string / cotton

Now lets get started:

  1. Inflate a balloon and tie it off

  2. Mix a small amount of wallpaper paste to a runny glue consistency

  3. Balance your balloon in a bowl

  4. Make sure you have everything you need as it is time to get sticky

  5. Using your hands get some paste and rub over the upper visible part of the balloon

  6. Now lay single pieces of paper over the glue

  7. Cover the paper in more glue and smooth

  8. Do this all round the balloon until you have completely covered the whole balloon

  9. Repeat for five layers

  10. The last layer will be exactly the same but using white paper (this is so it will be easier for the children to paint their designs on)

  11. Tie a piece of string or cotton round the tie in the balloon and hang to dry which will probably take a couple of days

  12. Once the paper is totally dry you can pop the balloon (you will feel the balloon peel away from the paper)

  13. Now you can cut the balloon shape so you have two masks!

Once you've made your masks, you can call Cindy on 02380 890002 to arrange for them to be used onboard the Playbus.
