This Carers Week, We're Asking Why We Care

This Carers Week, we've been asking some of our young carers, Aliyah, Georgie and Caleb and some of our supporters including Rocketman actor Steven Mackintosh, Cat Sandion, Maggie O'Neill and Mayor of Richmond, Councillor Nancy Baldwin, to learn why they care.

We're hoping as many people as possible will also get involved with Honeypot this Carers Week to support young carers. A recent survey from the BBC suggests there are as many as 800,000 young carers in England, well above official figures as suggested in the last census. It's vital young carers are recognised and provided the support they need.

This video highlights the stories of Aliyah, Caleb and Georgie. Aliyah cares for her brother who has autism and epilepsy. Caleb and Georgie both care for their mothers. Caleb's mother has mobility issues due to her kidney problems and Georgie's mother has lupus and arthritis. All of them have been caring for years, and are all very protective of their families.

Honeypot's goal is to support children like Aliyah, Caleb and Georgie with respite and outreach, to give them breaks away from caring, as well as helping them to just be children again.
